Simon Jordan namechecks Leeds United in new Ipswich Town promotion admission live on air

Simon Jordan believes Ipswich Town will be playing Premier League football next season, as Leeds United continue to battle for the Championship title.

Leeds followed a 2-1 loss at Coventry City, their first in the Championship since December 29, with a 0-0 bore draw with Sunderland (9 April), with fellow title challengers Leicester City and Ipswich Town having also stumbled in recent weeks.

The Foxes lost 1-0 to Millwall (9 April), while the Tractor Boys were held to a goalless draw by Watford on Wednesday (10 April).

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Thursday (11 April, 10:11am), Jordan said: It’s an intriguing league. You’re looking at former Premier League teams competing with Ipswich Town, who have been out of the Premier League for a long time but have great pedigree in the past.

“I think they’re doing a wonderful job with their ownership, and manager, and the way they’re building a football club as well as a football team. Ipswich will take a look at last night as a bit of both.

“In the run-in, when you’re trying to get automatic promotion, rather than being cast back into the lottery of the playoffs, you’ve got to win your home games. So, they’ll take it as a point gained but they’ll also look on the flip side with their home games.

“When you look at their next games, Middlesbrough is always difficult, Hull are trying to get into the playoffs, Coventry are too, and Huddersfield are trying to stay in the division.

“All of those games have something on them, other than Middlesbrough. You think to yourself, ‘Wow, these are all battles.’ Leeds have a similar thing. I think Ipswich have done remarkably well.

“They’re going to be competing to get into the Premier League this season one way or another. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that they might have enough to get automatic promotion.”

Will Leeds United claim automatic promotion to the Premier League this season?

The race for Premier League promotion is certainly heating up, although it seems none of the three teams have wanted to take advantage of each other’s slip-ups so far.

While Leicester have one game in hand over the other two, Leeds are just one point behind the joint-top leaders with four matches of the league campaign remaining.

Daniel Farke’s previous experience with Norwich City in the division will definitely come into play, having lifted the title twice under the guidance of the German, and rather impressively.

Whichever team misses out on automatic promotion will feel extremely hard done by, but the race is too hard to call right now, and all Leeds can do is win their matches and hope their rivals cannot keep up.

With remaining matches against Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough, QPR and Southampton, Farke will need to ensure his side return to winning ways after going winless in consecutive league matches for the first time since December.
