Leeds United have already reached out to the agent of Kalvin Phillips regarding a summer move from Manchester City, according to Sports Zone.

The French outlet, which is followed on X by Paris Saint-Germain's head of communications Julien Maynard, plus transfer specialists Graeme Bailey and Ben Jacobs, shared the update on Monday (8 April).

Leeds are said to be in contact with Phillips' camp, while two other unnamed English clubs are also keeping an eye on the situation of the West Ham loanee.

How much did Manchester City pay for Kalvin Phillips?

As far-fetched as this transfer looked just a couple of months ago, it is now looking far more of a possibility.

Phillips' struggles at Man City and now West Ham mean that he will surely prioritise joining a club that he will not only play regularly but also be happy at.

That is only half of the matter, of course, as Leeds will also still have to agree a fee with the reigning Premier League and European champions.

Given City paid an upfront fee of £42million for England international Phillips in July 2022 [Sky Sports], they will surely want at least £30m this summer.

A loan is another route Leeds could go down, but that would also not be cheap and is also rather counter-productive. If Phillips flops, United would have wasted a large sum that could have gone elsewhere.

If Phillips impresses, meanwhile, it means his valuation will only increase by the following summer. For all the talk of Phillips potentially returning, though, it will only be possible if Leeds are in the Premier League.

And on the back of the loss to Coventry City at the weekend, that is far from a straightforward objective to achieve.
