Simon Grayson shares ‘Abysmal’ Leeds United record in new warning

Leeds United will not want to be in the Championship play-offs with their “abysmal” record, Simon Grayson has warned.

The former Whites boss believes Daniel Farke’s side will be one of the teams to win automatic promotion to the Premier League this season.

Currently, the West Yorkshire outfit are top of the Championship, but Burnley, Sheffield United and Sunderland are all clinging on closely behind.

Speaking on talkSPORT2 (11 January, 19:43) after the Peacocks beat Harrogate Town 1-0 in the FA Cup, Grayson said: “No, they don’t [want to be in the play-offs] because the record Leeds have got is abysmal, to be fair.

“It’s one of those divisions where there are only four teams out of this group now that can really affect the top two places. I honestly think they have the strength in depth and quality to go up in one of the automatic positions.”

Leeds United need Premier League football back at Elland Road

The Elland Road faithful are looking forward to seeing their team back in the English top flight after their relegation in 2023.

In the previous campaign, the Whites were close to getting back into the Premier League but lost 1-0 to Southampton in the play-off final.

Farke’s team had automatic promotion in their hands at one point but collapsed towards the end of the season before losing at Wembley.

Leeds can’t let go of their lead this time around and need to find more consistency after recently dropping points against Blackburn Rovers and Hull City.

The Peacocks let a two-goal lead slip at the MKM Stadium in the recent 3-3 draw, which is unacceptable if they hope to retain their top spot.

While the Whites have progressed to the next round of the FA Cup, they made a meal of it and barely got past Harrogate, with Largie Ramazani heading home the winner.

The West Yorkshire outfit have some important fixtures coming up in the Championship, with a game against Burnley on 27 January.

Farke has players like Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev back available, which should help the German manager win the Championship title.
