Signing Sergino Dest will not be enough for Leeds United
Leeds United are one of the clubs interested in signing Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest in the summer transfer window.
Competition is tough at the right-back spot at FC Barcelona in the presence of Dani Alves, Sergi Roberto and Óscar Mingueza, which could be one of the reasons why the US international could leave Spain for regular minutes at another club.
TEAMtalk has reported that Victor Orta wants to move quickly to bring the American to Elland Road, following in the footsteps of Brenden Aaronson this summer.
According to ESPN, the Catalans had also tried to offload the full-back during the January transfer window but the move could not materialised.
Good move but not enough
Signing Dest, who played 21 La Liga matches last season, could be a smart move by Leeds as Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas are likely to miss the start of next season due to injuries.
However, the 21-year-old seems more capable of being an attacking right-back option, which might not be enough for Leeds going into the campaign after conceding 79 goals in the Premier League during the last season.
Dest as he likes staying up the pitch, rather than sitting back and defending and for him to establish himself as a regular in the Whites lineup, the former Ajax player must improve his defensive skills.
On the Leeds side, the thought process must be that the youngster is likely to settle down easily because he would be playing under an American manager while also having a USMNT teammate in the shape of Aaronson by his side.
However, Leeds must not put their all eggs in the basket of Dest and ensure that they’ve enough options in the full-back department going into the 2022-23 campaign.
