Scouts 'from all over' in attendance for Leeds United under-21s v Crewe Alexandra

Leeds United fans may be a little bit concerned with what the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Joe Donnohue shared before their under-21s fixture against Crewe Alexandra.

It was revealed (via Twitter, 1 November) that “scouts from all over” were in attendance for the fixture, with a number of the Whites’ best young talents on show against the League Two side.

Joe Gelhardt, Willy Gnonto, Sonny Perkins and Darko Gyabi were just some of the youth products named in the lineup.

18-year-old Perkins has ten goals already in the 2022/23 season and has proven to be a livewire for Michael Skubala’s side. He’s not going to leave Elland Road anytime soon, but it’s completely understandable to see why scouts from all over the country are present to watch the fixture.

Luckily for the Yorkshire side, a number of their young players are tied down to long contracts at Elland Road, so the onlookers from elsewhere can look but not touch when it comes to trying to draw any player away.

In fact, it should come as a compliment to Leeds’ wonderful under-21s set-up, that there are so many people taking note of the good work the club does when it comes to developing younger players.

The club have been extremely astute in the transfer market, with the likes of Perkins, Gelhardt, and Gyabi picked up from other academies. It’s now crucial they’re given first-team chances by Jesse Marsch in the League Cup and FA Cup in order to continue their development.

In other Leeds United news, a “monumental failure” at a Champions League club means this Elland Road-linked ace can be signed for “zilch” in 2023.
