Leeds United were year to pay £15million for Ryan Kent last year but the Rangers winger is now set to ” walk out the door for zilch”, according to Scottish Mail on Sunday journalist Gary Keown.

Kent, 25, is in the final year of his contract at Ibrox and was a player who Marcelo Bielsa looked at plenty of times during his spell in charge at Elland Road.

According to Keown, the Whites would have paid £15million for him a year ago but now, it seems the ex-Liverpool winger will be available for free due to a major mistake behind the scenes at Rangers.

Writing for the Scottish Mail on Sunday (30 October, page 137), Keown said: “Kent, thanks to another monumental failure to manage assets, is about to enter the last si months of his deal as well [as striker Alfredo Morelos].

“Who knows what you do with him? If someone offered decent money in January, you would probably sell. But who will offer decent money given how badly he is playing?

“The thought of watching him walk out the door for zilch when Leeds were understood to be ready to pay £15m last year must be too much to bear for Rangers punters.”

No, thanks

Kent is awful.

Rangers play against teams like Livingston, St Mirren and Dundee United on a regular basis yet Kent has scored just one goal in 18 appearances across all competitions this season.

He’s supplied five assists in his 10 Scottish Premiership appearances but the only ones you’d really think were impressive would be against Celtic.

In 17 appearances against Celtic in Scotland, Kent has scored two goals and supplied four assist, which is a terribly low number.

You can’t play against Ross County every week in the Premier League.

Rangers fans seem to have had enough for Kent with the Oldham-born winger suffering from a serious decline in his form while there’s also been no movement in regards to him signing a new contract.

Kent is fast and skilful but his end-product is massively lacking and there are bound to be scores of other targets on Victor Orta’s list who could do better if he wants a new left-winger in January or next summer.

Kent may represent a bargain.

But not all bargains are good ones.
