Sam Allardyce wanted Leeds United ‘upstairs role’ before Elland Road exit

Sam Allardyce wanted to stay at Leeds United in an “upstairs role” to assist the club in finding a new young manager, according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon.

Nixon reports on his personal Patreon (4 June) that Allardyce was eager to remain as general manager or director of football.

It’s believed the former West Brom boss felt he was a good fit for the role and suggest coaches to work underneath him at Elland Road.

Allardyce left the Yorkshire side on 2 June after losing three of his four matches in charge of the Whites.

Wow

Allardyce as director of football would have certainly been an interesting one. He was given an impossible job at Elland Road. The players were not up to scratch. Even the best managers on the planet would’ve had a tough time trying to keep the Whites in the top flight.

It’s probably best for both parties to go their separate ways. A fresh approach is required at the top of the club. The ownership issues have to be sorted out first.

The 49ers’ takeover of the club has clouded Elland Road for far too long. The fans would appreciate clarity on the current situation. Once the takeover has been completed, decisions can then be made in terms of the football operations.

The longer Angus Kinnear and Andrea Radrizzani ponder over the takeover and managerial appointments, the more Leeds will be impacted heading into what promises to be a tough Championship campaign. An immediate return to the top flight is by no means a certainty.

In other Leeds United news, the future of one Whites-linked manager is now up in the air after a high-level resignation at his current club.
