Sam Allardyce: Bielsa has got a reputation for one thing at Leeds
Sam Allardyce has said that Marcelo Bielsa has got a reputation for getting the most out of his players at Leeds.
The conversation started on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show when an Everton fan phoned to say that that Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa would be a brilliant replacement for under-fire boss Marco Silva.
Everton are currently in the bottom three of the Premier League after a terrible run of four consecutive defeats against Bournemouth, Sheffield United, Man City and Burnley.
“He’s [Bielsa] certainly playing what they call attractive football at Leeds,” Allardyce said. “He’s got a reputation for getting the best out of the players he’s got.”
“Are Everton a bigger club than Leeds?” Brazil asked. “At this moment you’d probably say Everton are bigger but Leeds potentially are as big as Everton I think.”
“Everton are bigger because they’ve got the bigger ambition, they’ve got a new stadium, bigger spending power and are looking to go places,” Allardyce replied.
Everton might be in the Premier League but they’re not looking like they’re going to be going places under Silva this season.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men have dropped down to fifth in the Championship after losing to Millwall on Saturday but they’re still favourites to win the Championship, although their odds have dropped to 7/4.
This time next season, Allardyce might have to give a very different answer to that question.
