Beckford: Leeds will get promoted this season

talkSPORT pundit Jermaine Beckford has delivered a brilliant prediction for Leeds fans.

Talking on the station on Friday, Beckford heaped praise on manager Marcelo Bielsa and said he had put together the “best team in the Championship”.

He said that Leeds would get promoted this season, and that when the home form caught up with their away from, “no one is going to catch them”.

“I think he is a phenomenal man. He’s built an amazingly exciting team,” Beckford said.

“They relentlessly put pressure on their opponents, which forces them into massive mistakes.

“Last season he was super unlucky to fall over two legs against Derby [in the play-offs] but I think he’ll be much more aware of the rigors of the Championship this time around.

“I think he’ll have a bit more squad rotation, I don’t think he had as much last season as perhaps was needed so a bit of fatigue set in, mental fatigue as well.

Asked if Leeds would get promoted this season Beckford said, “Yes. Leeds are top of the league as it stands, but Leeds’ home form hasn’t been great, a  couple of draws and a loss. `

“Their away form has been amazing. When Leeds can replicate that at home, with home form to match the away form, no one is going to catch them. Leeds are the best team in the Championship.”

Leeds hit their first blip on the road when they lost to Charlton last week – bar that game they had a perfect record on their travels.

Beckford is right, it’s at Elland Road where Leeds have been struggling. The win against West Brom was possibly their best of the season but it was another game when Leeds have failed to score more than a single goal at home this season.

For such a free-flowing attacking team, it’s incredible that they haven’t scored more than a single goal at Elland Road yet but it’s partly down to how teams set up against Bielsa’s men. When Bielsa cracks that and the home form improves, Leeds could start to run away with the league.

However, the game against West Brom – the best team Leeds have faced this season – shows that there’s not a lot between the teams who should be at the top come next May.
