Rudy Cline-Thomas decision explained amid Leeds United boardroom reshuffle

Rudy Cline-Thomas has stepped back from his role on the Leeds United board as he has other ventures that require more of his time, according to The Athletic.

The outlet reported on 23 July that despite stepping back from his role on the Whites’ board, he is still a significant investor and will continue to be so despite his less involved status with the club.

The report added that prior to investing in the West Yorkshire outfit, Cline-Thomas owned 20 per cent of Plymouth Argyle and gave that back to the club in order to become part of the Leeds project.

Leeds United not set to be too affected by the stepping back of Rudy Cline-Thomas

Although the American Businessman has stepped back from his role within Leeds, the club aren’t set to be too affected by his absence.

As Cline-Thomas was the vice-chairman of the club, the main thing that affected them was announcing a new figure to take over the role.

This has already been arranged as Andrew Schwartzberg has been named as the new vice-chairman.

Although behind-the-scenes changes have been made, this fortunately means for the club that nothing will have to be halted in their preparation for the 2024/25 season.

Any transfers that they wish to make will be able to carry on and the focus is squarely on the club’s performance on the pitch.

This is the best outcome for the Whites as they’ll be able to continue their bid for Premier League promotion and the focus in the next few weeks is assembling a squad capable of having a renewed challenge for top-flight promotion.

Even if the likes of Willy Gnonto [The Boot Room, 16 July] or perhaps even Crysencio Summerville choose to exit over the course of the window there is plenty of cause for optimism.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have to sign Sammie Szmodics after Fabrizio Romano’s recent update.
