Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim very highly thought of at Leeds United
Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim is very highly thought of at Leeds United, according to Eurosport journalist Dean Jones.
Marcelo Bielsa has not committed to staying another season at Elland Road after his contract expires at the end of the season.
Leeds are believed to have a shortlist of managers should the Argentine leave and Amorim is held in high regard among the club hierarchy.
Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones said of Amorim and Leeds, “He’s a guy that’s very highly thought of, very young.”
Worth their time
Amorim may have been on the back of a 5-0 drubbing against Manchester City in the Champions League, but that says nothing about him as a manager.
Sporting were never expected to be able to go toe to toe with City’s riches and were rightly given a reality check.
In the league, Amorim has exceeded expectations, winning 67 of his 91 games in charge of the club since March 2020.
He’s got an impressive win rate of 74 per cent at the club and that’s enough for him to be in the mix for the Leeds job.
Apart from results, he does play an attacking brand of football and uses a 4-3-3 shape not too dissimilar to the 4-1-4-1 Bielsa has deployed on numerous occasions at Elland Road.
While most Leeds fans would want Bielsa to stay on for at least another year, they know that he will be needing to be replaced sooner rather than later and there’s a good chance he’s on his way packing this summer.
