Rodrigo sends message to Mateusz Klich as Leeds United midfielder set for January exit

Mateusz Klich has penned an emotional letter as he is all set to leave Leeds United in the January transfer window.

The Polish midfielder made his last appearance for the Whites in the 2-2 draw against West Ham on Wednesday (4 January) as he is set to be joining DC United in the MLS, as reported by American journalist Tom Bogert [4 January].

Many Leeds players and pundits have responded to his post, and Rodrigo and Junior Firpo were among them.

“I love you Leeds United. It’s been an honour,” wrote Klich.

Rodrigo responded: “Top player! Top person.”

Firpo also replied, saying: “Jugador (player)!. Gonna miss you man.”

Klich has been an amazing servant for the club and he will always be seen as a cult hero at Elland Road.

The Whites players gave him a guard of honour after the game, while Klich was left in tears after the match.

The 32-year-old joined the Yorkshire club in 2017 and became a key player under Marcelo Bielsa.

He played his best football under the Argentine and played a massive role in taking the club to the Premier League after a long sixteen-year absence.

Klich forged a strong partnership alongside Kalvin Phillips in midfield and has made 195 appearances for the club.

However, he was no longer a guaranteed starter under Jesse Marsch and dropped down the pecking order at the club behind Marc Roca and Tyler Adams this season.

Marsch wanted to keep him as a squad player, but Klich feels that he still has got plenty of football left in him and wanted to play regular football.

His career at Elland Road may have come to an end, but his legacy at the club will remain forever.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have already made an approach to sign a player who could be the next arrival at Elland Road after Max Wober.
