The agent of reported Leeds United target Rodrigo De Paul has spoken out over the current transfer situation surrounding his client.
The Udinese midfielder emerged as a target for the Whites recently, with Fabrizio Romano initially reporting that they are “seriously interested” in the player.
The Argentine then raised eyebrows on Monday evening by seemingly confirming his own personal eagerness to complete a move to Elland Road on Twitter.
But it would appear that Leeds aren’t the only side in the race for his signature, with his representative, Leandro Pereiro, also refusing to rule out a potential raid from Serie A giants Roma.
Speaking to Inside Futbol, when initially asked about the possibility of a move to Elland Road, he said: “We are evaluating some options”.
When then asked about potential interest from the Italian capital, he added: “We have to see if they can release a midfielder.”
Everything feels a little up in the air with De Paul at the moment.
If we’re to take things at face value, then it seems as if they player is keen but an agreement has not been met between Leeds and Udinese.
The South American’s social media activity certainly gives the impression of somebody who wants to make the switch to the Premier League, but Romano has suggested that his current employers will not sell for anything less than £36.8 million.
That could be a major stumbling block, especially if Roma can sell a midfielder and raise the necessary funds to meet that asking price.
For now, we have to remain hopeful, and Pereiro’s ambiguity shouldn’t necessarily be taken as a bad thing, but this one still has a long way left to run.
