Robin Koch hopes Leeds United teammate Raphinha stays at the club

Leeds United defender Robin Koch has revealed in an interview with BILD in Germany that he hopes Raphinha will remain at Elland Road.

25-year-old Koch joined the Whites from Bundesliga side SC Freiburg in 2020 and recent reports had linked Raphinha with a move to fellow German side Bayern Munich [TNT Sports Brazil].

Further developments since has seemed to rule out a move in the January window and Koch hopes that the Brazilian will stay beyond then at Elland Road.

“Fortunately not yet, so that’s probably a good sign,” Koch said when asked if Raphinha had asked him about the Bundesliga.

“He’s important for our team. I am happy he didn’t that he didn’t ask me about the Bundesliga, so I hope he will stay at Leeds.

“He’s a player who has enormous quality and who, especially with his Brazilian style, can simply make a difference going forwards.

“Yes, he can make the difference going forward because he’s good 1-on-1 and is fast, but he also works well against the ball.”

Far from out of the woods

Koch’s comments will encourage Leeds United fans as it seems that an immediate move away from Yorkshire in January is becoming less likely.

But that doesn’t mean that Raphinha’s future is definitely at Elland Road and Leeds fans should still be prepared to see him leave at the end of the season.

And while he would be a massive loss to the team should he go, the financial aspect of a deal would be a huge benefit to the club.

The progress that could be made off the pitch as well as on it if the rumoured transfer fee is true would be greater than anything one player could bring.

Selling the Brazilian could be a springboard for Leeds United to return to the top half of the Premier League and push on towards a long-awaited European return too.
