Robin Koch happy at Leeds United amid Newcastle United transfer speculation

Robin Koch is happy at Leeds United and has not informed anyone about a move away from Elland Road, according to an update from journalist Mo Ibrahim.

German media outlet Sport1 reported on 6 March, that Newcastle United were keen on bringing the German international to St James’ Park this summer.

The 25-year-old has established himself as a vital cog in the Leeds United first team, enjoying key roles under Marcelo Bielsa, Jesse Marsch and now Javi Gracia.

However, reporting via Twitter [8 March] Ibrahim, who is part of Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio’s staff, has quelled such rumours and insists the player is happy at Elland Road as the club have declined approaches for his signature.

He tweeted: “Robin Koch has not informed anyone in Leeds United about leaving the club.

“He is more than happy at Leeds and he has informed the club he is happy to stay as the club declined any approaches made for him.”

Must keep him

Koch’s grown from strength to strength since his move to Elland Road and many Leeds fans can now understand why Bielsa was hell-bent on bringing him to the club.

The centre-back wasn’t a name that excited many of the Whites faithful upon his move in 2020, but he’s quietly gone on about his business to be the first choice under three different managers.

Performing in the Bundesliga, one of Europe’s top five leagues, with Freiburg is one thing and doing it in the Premier League, is another, but he’s already proven himself at the top level.

With the Whites currently steeped in a relegation dogfight, new boss Javi Gracia needs all of his key men at tip-top form and Koch has long emerged as a key performer at Elland Road, but not only can they rely on him now but they surely will rely on him in the near future too.

The Whites must keep him, although that may prove hard to achieve if they suffer relegation from the English top flight.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
