Robin Koch confident Leeds United will stay in Premier League

Leeds United defender Robin Koch has revealed in an interview that he has full belief in the squad to survive relegation from the Premier League this season.

The German, who returned from a long injury layoff against Arsenal in December, reassured supporters that the entire team has the same conviction that they won’t go down this year.

The 25-year-old also set his sights higher than just survival but admits they need to sort that out first before looking towards the future.

“I don’t fear relegation,” Koch said in an interview with BBC Sport West Yorkshire. “I’ll be confident and positive enough to say that we don’t go down.

“We will get enough points to stay in the league and I can say the same for the whole team.

“We should focus on getting out of the lower part of the table. This has to be the start and we have to keep going and we’ll see how we end the season.”

No need to worry

Sitting 15th in the Premier League isn’t the most comfortable of positions for Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United but things aren’t nearly as nail-biting as they might appear.

The Whites have a nine-point gap to Norwich City who occupy the first of three relegation places and it would take a surprising turn in form for the Canaries to overcome that gap between now and the end of the season.

It would also require Everton, five points back, and one of Watford, Newcastle or Burnley going on a winning streak, none of which seem likely to do so right now.

Leeds fans should therefore be looking up the table for comfort knowing that they are only three points behind Leicester City who sit 10th.

They are right in the battle for the top half of the table, where they finished last season, and should no longer be considered as relegation candidates.
