Richard Keys shares what sources tell him about Leeds United v Liverpool controversy, PGMOL in contact with Elland Road

Richard Keys has revealed he has been told the PGMOL have indicated to Leeds United that Trent Alexander-Arnold should have been penalised for handball during Liverpool’s 6-1 win at Elland Road.

The England international appeared to handle the ball in the build-up to Cody Gakpo’s opening goal to set Jurgen Klopp’s side on their way to a dominant victory.

However, Keys has since revealed (via Twitter, 20 April) that the PGMOL have accepted that the goal shouldn’t have stood.

“Sources tell me that PGMOL have told Leeds that the Alexander-Arnold goal should not have stood,” said Keys

“It was handball. Arsene Wenger told BeINSPORTS Harry Maguire v Forest was handball & both pens at Bayern last night were wrong. Where do we go?”

Remarkable

The original argument for the goal standing was that the incident happened well before the ball ended up in the back of the net, however, this was simply not the case. It directly allowed the Liverpool right back to win the ball back and subsequently provide an assist for Gakpo to finish into an empty net.

Up until that point, the game was a fairly even contest. We all knew the first goal would be a game-changer and unfortunately for Leeds, it was pivotal. From that moment onwards it was a bloodbath and the players do need to take some responsibility for effectively throwing the towel in so easily.

The onus is now on the players to respond when Leeds face off against Fulham on Saturday lunchtime (22 April). Marco Silva’s side are coming off of an impressive win over Everton and will fancy their chances of finishing what has been an impressive campaign in positive fashion.
