Report details Brighton stance on Ben White following Leeds loan

Brighton have no intention of selling centre-back Ben White following his successful loan spell at Leeds.

The Argus claims that the club will resist all offers for the player who has got himself on Liverpool’s radar after a stunning few months at Elland Road.

Liverpool are said to be willing to pay £20m for the player but while Brighton haven’t had any offers, the message is that he’s not for sale.

That’s not great news for Leeds but it’s not entirely surprising.

White has been an instant success at Leeds since arriving from Brighton on loan this summer and he’s now firmly one of the first names on the team sheet for Marcelo Bielsa.

Not bad for a 22-year-old whose previous experience was against opposition from Leagues One and Two.

However, loans are always troublesome unless you’ve got an option to buy in the deal.

You want your loan signings to perform brilliantly, but if you don’t have an option then you run the risk of losing them at the end of the season if they stand out, or earlier if you’re unlucky.

Harvey Barnes was recalled from loan early by Leicester last season and that was a major blow for a club that went on to miss out on relegation.

Leeds do not have an option to buy White and it seems unlikely that the club will be able to hold onto him beyond the end of the season – certainly without a major investment.

Brighton signed White up on a new deal before his loan move and that will keep him on the south coast until 2022.
