Tyler Roberts sends Instagram message; fans not impressed with Sunday cameo

Tyler Roberts came on for the last few minutes of the game for Wales in their Euro 2020 qualifier against Croatia on Sunday, but the Leeds attacker couldn’t make the impact manager Ryan Giggs was looking for.

Gareth Bale had brought Wales back into the game with a goal at the end of the first half, after Nikola Vlasic had given the visitors the lead after just nine minutes.

The game ended 1-1 and the draw keeps Wales’ hopes alive although their fate is now out of their hands. Two wins from their final two games could be enough to see them qualify for the tournament next summer, though.

Wales are in fourth, four points behind Hungary in second place, but they have a game in hand.

They play Azerbaijan in November before facing Hungary in the final game of their qualification campaign. If Slovakia get four points from their last two games (Croatia and Azerbaijan) then Wales can’t finish in the top two.

Roberts sent a defiant message to fans after the game on Sunday, saying “Keep on fighting” in a story on his Instagram account.

Wales fans weren’t particularly impressed with his cameo appearance though, with one saying he looked tired as soon as he came on.

Roberts hasn’t had a lot of game time for Leeds since returning from injury, but fans will be hoping he can rediscover the form he hit at the end of last season.

Leeds face Birmingham next in the Championship on Saturday, where Roberts will likely be on the bench.
