Leeds ace Jack Clarke sends message to fans after display for England Under-20s

Leeds loanee Jack Clarke finally got some much-needed action on international duty, but he said he was “disappointed” by the result.

Clarke was playing for the England Under-20s against Italy in Parma and it looked like Keith Downing’s side were on for a great victory after Angel Gomes put them ahead from the spot after 22 minutes.

Gomes, the Man United youngster, fired in a second just a minute later to put England on cruise control but Italy got a penalty right on the stroke of half-time and Gianluca Frabotta got the hosts back in the game.

Manolo Portanova got the equaliser pretty soon after the restart and the game ended 2-2.

Posting on his Instagram account, Clarke – who scored for the England Under-20s in their 1-0 win over Switzerland in September – said, “Disappointing to come away with the draw today, felt we deserved a lot more. A lot of positives and we build towards Monday #younglions”

Clarke’s next outing for the Under-20s is against the Czech Republic at Peterborough United on Monday evening.

Clarke has had a tough season at Leeds after returning on loan following his £10m summer move to Tottenham.

He hasn’t made it onto the pitch in the Championship yet and has been dropped from the matchday squad entirely for six games, leading to speculation that his loan might be cut short in January by Spurs.
