Reliable journo: Lee Bowyer missed out on loan move for Leeds midfielder
Charlton Athletic missed out on signing Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Bogusz on loan this transfer window, according to South London Press editor Richard Cawley.
The young Pole completed a deadline day switch to Spanish outfit UD Logrones ln Monday.
The 19-year-old has struggled to make an impression on the first team picture at Elland Road since signing from Ruch Chorzow in January of last year, and has featured just three times for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
He has been a regular for the U23s, and it is understood that ex-Whites midfielder Lee Bowyer was keen on giving the opportunity to further his experience in the English game with a spell at The Valley.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, Cawley said: “Charlton had a loan interest in Leeds midfielder Mateusz Bogusz.
“But he is joining Spanish side UD Logrones.”
This is an interesting update, and it could tell us a little about how Bielsa views Bogusz.
Conventional wisdom surely dictates that if you are keen for a player to make the step up to regular first team football in England, it makes more sense to loan him out to a League One side than it does to send him to a struggling Spanish second tier club.
The fact that Bielsa preferred for Bogusz to go to the continent tells us one of two things.
Either he feels that he will learn things in Spain that are more important to his development as a player than the knowledge he would have accrued in the capital, or he doesn’t really seem him as having a viable future at Elland Road.
Paul Robinson told MOT Leeds News that he believes Bielsa is undecided on the player, and there’s nothing here to suggest otherwise.
In other Leeds United news, Bruno Fernandes sent a message to Raphinha after he signed for the Whites.
