Reliable journalist shares update on Barry Douglas future, one EFL club drops out of race

Leeds United defender Barry Douglas has dramatically fallen down the pecking order at the beginning of the Premier League season.

The Scotsman has not been included in any of the matchday squads under Marcelo Bielsa, despite the lack of options at left-back at Elland Road.

Stuart Dallas is the current number one choice, with Ezgjan Alioski the backup option usually named on the bench.

Douglas has been linked with a move away from West Yorkshire before Friday’s deadline, with a number of clubs interested.

The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has shared an update on his personal Twitter account, claiming that Watford are preparing a loan offer.

Nixon also added that Blackburn appear to have dropped out of the race, leading the path clear for the London club to make their move.

It isn’t known whether Watford will turn their interest into a firm offer, but it appears that Douglas’ Elland Road career has already ended.

Strange move

Douglas only has this year left on his current deal with the Whites, and it could be finished with a loan move to another club.

Leeds wouldn’t be paying his wages, so they would be much better off either releasing the defender or trying to get a fee off Watford for his services.

The Whites will most likely be making no more moves during the extended EFL and Premier League deadline in terms of incomings, and this could be the only deal in the senior squad.

Douglas has never quite hit his best form at Elland Road, but he will be remembered as part of the Championship title-winning squad for many years to come.
