Leeds United defender Luke Ayling was beaming with pride when discussing his rise to the Premier League during Soccer AM on Saturday.

The Whites full-back opened up on his opening day experience against Liverpool and Sadio Mane, and in particular, that nutmeg at Anfield.

Ayling was delighted, claiming he even stopped to get the approval of Tyler Roberts in the stands during the game.

Ayling admitted that the Leeds squad thought it could be a long day after the opening five minutes, but they rallied to give the champions a real scare.

"It was nice. Obviously, you’re a bit nervous to start the season,” the full-back said on Soccer AM.

"They came out flying the first few minutes, I was like, ‘Jesus, oh my gosh, it’s going to be a long day’. Then I chucked the megs in and thought, ‘This is a bit of me!’. I remember looking at Tyler Roberts in the stand and saying, ‘Did you see that?’.

"About five minutes later, I was down the line and he went straight through my legs. I thought, ‘What’s happened here?’ - he got me straight back."

Ayling has endured a rollercoaster start to the Premier League.

In his first four games, the electric full-back has already come up against the likes of Mane and Raheem Sterling.

No one in the Leeds squad has averaged more tackles per game, with Ayling completing up to 4.8 according to WhoScored - impressive.

As well as that, only Liam Cooper has completed more clearances, as the 29-year-old cements his place in Elland Road history with his efforts this season.
