Arsenal were left sweating over the fitness of Thomas Partey for their clash against Leeds United next Sunday after he was forced off the pitch against Aston Villa last week.
Partey, 27, was seen holding ice on his thigh in the 3-0 defeat to Dean Smith’s side at the Emirates but, according to Goal journalist Charles Watts, the midfielder should be available for Mikel Arteta at Elland Road next weekend.
Speaking via a Q&A on YouTube, Watts said that he’s spoken to a source close to Partey and that the Ghana international is “confident” he should be available to play again soon.
While that doesn’t say whether or not he’ll play against Leeds next week, it’s reasonable to assume that the Ghanaian midfielder remains a doubt as it’s not 100 per cent certain that he’ll play.
Partey has made five appearances in all competitions since joining Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth £45million last month.
Stats by WyScout show that the Gunners star has completed 91.1 per cent of his passes in the Premier League this season while also breaking down opposition attacks by averaging 10.04 recoveries, 4.3 interceptions and 5.38 defensive duels per 90 minutes of league football.
Arsenal are bound to be a worse team without Partey if he’s not able to play against Leeds – and that’s great news for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
Arteta’s men will still be dangerous and we’re not saying for one second that Partey’s potential omission will be a major boost to Leeds’ hopes of a win.
But there’s no denying that the Whites will find it slightly easier to push forward and attack the Gunners if they are without their £45million midfield enforcer.
