Reliable journalist claims Leeds set to sign ‘top quality’ Premier League international

Argentinian journalist Nicolas Bozza claims that Tottenham centre-back Juan Foyth is set to join Leeds United on loan in the summer.

Leeds have been linked to the 22-year-old previously, although this was in connection with a permanent deal.

Bozza said, “The former footballer of #EDLP @JuanMFoyth will join #LeedsUnited. The centre-back of the Argentina National Team will play in the Bielsa team. Tottenham will loan him for the season.”

Foyth hasn’t made the impact at Tottenham he would have hoped for and has only made four Premier League appearances this season.

However, MOT Leeds News columnist Paul Robinson said of Foyth, “He’s a top-quality player and it would seem like very sensible business for Leeds, especially if they can’t sign Ben White on a permanent deal.”

Foyth – a good fit for Leeds?

We know a fair amount of Foyth, after following his career since he moved to Tottenham.

It looked like Mauricio Pochettino had earmarked him for a starring role in the centre of the Spurs defence with Toby Alderweireld looking like he was on his way out.

However, Alderweireld stayed after a protracted saga and Foyth didn’t get much of a chance to prove himself.

He made 12 appearances in the 18/19 season Premier League, but just four this season under Jose Mourinho.

The times we have seen him play he hasn’t looked the most comfortable and he conceded two penalties on his Premier League debut against Wolves.

That was unlucky and it probably set him back but it seemed like he was overawed by the big occasions at Tottenham.

In his favour, he can play at right-back as well and he’s a full Argentina international with 10 caps for his country.

He always looks to get forward but that’s got him in trouble at Tottenham with his touch often getting away from him.

Pochettino obviously rated him, paying almost £12m for a player who had only played for Estudiantes.

And, if anyone can tease the full potential out of him, then it’s Marcelo Bielsa and the Argentina connection can only help here.

MOT Leeds News columnist Paul Robinson said that this could help Leeds sign him and it looks like that could be happening.

However, does this mean Leeds are giving up on signing Ben White on a permanent deal or another loan? We hope not.
