Rasmus Kristensen agrees to Leeds United exit with transfer now advanced

Leeds United defender Rasmus Kristensen has agreed to depart Elland Road, with his loan move to AS Roma now in the advanced stages, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Serie A giants have long been targeting fellow Elland Road defender and Spaniard Diego Llorente, with Fabrizio Romano reporting on 24 June that the final details are set to be discussed on a transfer for the centre-back.

And now it seems Jose Mourinho’s men are about to have their grasp on another Leeds player in Kristensen who only joined from Red Bull Salzburg last summer and is now close to joining Llorente at the Stadio Olimpico.

According to Di Marzio [24 June], talks are at an advanced stage for Kristensen to join Roma, with the Danish defender giving his approval to join Mourinho’s men for next season.

Taking to his personal Twitter account, he tweeted: “Talks at an advanced stage for Rasmus Nissen Kristensen to join AS Roma from Leeds United.

“The player has given his approval to the move, he’s keen on it. The formula of the deal is still to be understood.”

Another one bites the dust

Wow! What a turnaround by Kristensen after reportedly giving assurances that he wanted to remain at Elland Road after their disappointing relegation from the Premier League.

The Danish defender was actually one of the few players that pulled his finger out and worked hard in an otherwise disastrous campaign for the Whites where he notched three Premier League goals and an assist in 26 games.

Leeds United

Leeds United are set to lose a plethora of key stars this summer, with Jack Harrison, Tyler Adams, Brendan Aaronson, Willy Gnonto, Llorente, Cody Drameh all set to leave Elland Road in search of pastures new, and now another one could now bite the dust.

Where this loan transfer leaves Leeds United in the transfer market now, having to find a potential replacement is certainly a worry as they would have had plans for the 25-year-old to remain a key part of the Championship aspirations.

The Whites may well be persuaded to do all they can to keep Drameh at the club but after his tremendous achievements with Luton Town, now they’re a Premier League club, it’s unlikely he’d want to undergo another gruelling Championship campaign next season.

Whoever takes the reins in the Elland Road dugout in the coming days certainly has a huge task on their hands identifying players to come in and make an immediate impact, when so many key players are ready and set to depart. Wow.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has made a claim on any “obstacles” the Whites may have with an announcement mooted in the coming days.
