Ralf Rangnick issues update on Leeds United defender Max Wober after bringing him off in Austria v Azerbaijan

Ralf Rangnick claims that Leeds United defender Max Wober will be assessed after he was taken off during the 4-1 Austria win v Azerbaijan on March 24.

The former Manchester United manager, who’s now in charge of the Austrian side, hopes that there is no structural damage.

The 25-year-old was taken off prematurely in the 34th minute of the contest as a precautionary measure.

Rangnick told La Ola, “We’ll take a look at it again tomorrow with the coaching team and check whether there’s structural damage. We hope that’s not the case.”

Hope he’s fine

Wober looked to be enjoying a run of games in the Leeds side and that is ideal for someone who’s new to the Premier League.

Players often struggle with the pace and physicality of the league and for the 25-year-old to adapt, he’s going to have to play week in and week out.

His versatility is another important factor and Javi Gracia would need to thank Jesse Marsch for bringing the Austrian to the club.

He can be deployed as a centre-back as well as a left-back and can give the team the option of playing different systems in and out of possession.

It’s a good thing that Rangnick was wise enough to take him off as a precaution as players tend to play through the pain and end up aggravating their injuries further.

It remains to be seen what the results say and hopefully, it’s nothing serious and he’ll be back sooner rather than later.

In other Leeds United, the Whites are now in pole position to seal their first signing under Javi Gracia despite interest from a Premier League rival.
