Radrizzani ready to sell stake in Leeds, whittles down shortlist of parties to three - report

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani is ready to take new investment in the club and has whittled down his shortlist from 22 to include just three possible parties.

One of those is Qatari Sports Investment (QSI), the only party that Radrizzani named. All we know of the others is that one is a “hugely wealthy” Leeds fan who lives in the USA and the other is the owner of an Italian club.

“I have been approached by more than 20 parties and I have selected these three,” Radrizzani said in an interview with the Times.

“The option of Qatar Sports Investment and Nasser — first of all they are friends, we have had a good relationship for a long time. Secondly, they have the possibility to bring this club to compete with Manchester City, so for the fans that could be a fantastic opportunity.”

Radrizzani went on to say that whatever happens, the club comes first. He didn’t rule out selling a majority stake but said he doesn’t need to at the moment.

However, he added that the Leeds wage bill is nudging £40m with coaches (Bielsa and his staff are on £6m a year) and that the money he has invested in Leeds would be enough to buy a “Europa League club in most of the European leagues, including Italy”.

It’s yet more proof that Leeds are in good hands with Radrizzani. The owner has done things differently, spending big money on the manager and his staff (£115k-a-week, which is way more than the highest-paid player at the club) and relying on loan signings in the last window.

Bielsa took Leeds to their highest finishing position in the Championship since promotion from League 1 last season, and are still favourites to win the league with the bookies next May.

Radrizzani’s masterplan is to put Leeds back among the greats and it seems that QSI could well be the money that sees the club compete with the likes of Man City.

First though, Leeds need to get out of the Championship and this season – the club’s centenary year – could be the most important in recent history.
