'Quite close' - Reliable journalist posts transfer update as Leeds home in on young striker

The first-and-most important signing of the summer for Leeds United will be Marcelo Bielsa.

Phil Hay has shared that there should be no problems on that front, although the Whites will need to yet again meet a number of demands for the South American.

One of those demands are that Bielsa has reportedly handed the club a list of players-per-position that he wants to strengthen in, and bringing those in would be key.

The final third will be an area that Bielsa will want improvements in. Most of us could expect Patrick Bamford to start that first Premier League game next month though.

Maybe not one for the first team, Joe Gelhardt of Wigan is a name that keeps popping up and it appears that Leeds could be nearing another signing.

The Sun journalist Alan Nixon shared an update on his personal Twitter account recently, claiming that the Whites are closing in on the talented forward.

“That’s it,” he wrote. “Weir went to Brighton. Gelhardt and Leeds quite close.”

Even if he did complete the move to Elland Road, Gelhardt wouldn’t make much of an impact on the first team straight away.

Nixon shared that the two clubs were in talks recently, and admitted that he could be one of many players to make a loan switch to Huddersfield and Carlos Corberan next season.

On that basis, Bielsa believes that the 18-year-old isn’t ready for the Premier League yet, but he has certainly shown enough this season in the Championship to prove he is a real talent.

Gelhardt’s goal against Hull City earlier in the campaign was enough to get pulses racing after a superb turn and finish – only a glimpse of what the youngster can do and surely, he will only get better at Elland Road.
