PSV ready to sell Leeds United-linked Cody Gakpo in January with £40m+ bids set to fly in

PSV Eindhoven are now ready to sell their star player Cody Gakpo in January with Leeds United being mentioned, according to 90min.

The Dutchman is set to star at the World Cup for his country having notched up double figures for goals and assists already this season which has seen his valuation increase, although he himself is said to not be interested in the Whites.

Eindhoven now want upwards of £40million to let the 23-year-old leave and they believe that too many clubs are interested for them to be able to keep hold of him beyond the winter window.

Calcio Mercato reported on 12 November that Leeds were still chasing Gakpo’s signature even though Liverpool had taken the lead of the race while 90min now claim that Manchester United have barged their way to the front of the queue.

A host of other clubs are also keen on Gakpo and would be willing to make a move in January with Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain all on watch.

Go early

As soon as the clock strikes 12 on 1 January 2023, Victor Orta has to be on the phone with Eindhoven and trying to make very quick moves to beat the queue of suitors.

With such a prestigious list of clubs supposedly on the hunt for the 23-year-old, being very quick and very decisive might be the only chance the whites have of completing this major scoop.

Jesse Marsch wants that big upgrade in attack to take Leeds United to the next level and Gakpo would be exactly that although there could be a stumbling block.

The breadth of top clubs interested could mean that the 23-year-old Dutch international opts not to entertain any offers from the Whites with Southampton also in that boat following rejected summer bids, as he revealed to The Times [19 October].

But there is still a chance for Leeds as long as Orta is up bright and early in 2023 and focused entirely on Gakpo and nothing else.

In other Leeds United news, if the Whites have to look for alternatives to the Dutchman in January, this compatriot could be the answer to their problems.
