PSV Eindhoven £25.9m Cody Gakpo revelation shared amid Leeds United interest

PSV Eindhoven “cannot refuse” a £25.9m bid for Leeds United transfer target Cody Gakpo according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

Andrea Radrizzani all but admitted (via Twitter, 1 September) that the club would continue to work on a deal to bring the Dutch international to Elland Road in the January window.

The Whites had a bid accepted (Fabrizio Romano, CaughtOffside substack, 5 September) for Gakpo in the summer before the 23-year-old opted to remain with the Eredivisie side. The bid was understood to be a club record £38.9million (Marco Timmer, 1 September).

However, De Telegraaf write (27 October) that PSV cannot refuse a £25.9million bid for Gakpo with the club in an urgent financial situation, to avoid ending the season “in the red”.

It does feel like Leeds’ hopes of signing Gakpo have been an gone and the reduced price will just mean a cheaper deal for one of Europe’s biggest clubs. The Elland Road faithful will be completely gutted that a deadline day deal didn’t materialise, with the club inches away from securing his services.

Leeds’ poor start to the season and Gakpo’s electric form for PSV means he is now operating at a different level when it comes to the clubs vying for his services.

Manchester United is a side that is continually linked to the versatile attaker and that could well be a move which materialises in the future. Leeds will likley try again in January, but more out of hope rather than expectation.

What is certain is that a couple of positive results between now and the January window will put them in a slightly better position to launch another move for the in demand attacker.

In other Leeds United news, Andrea Radrizzani has shared a three-word tweet about what’s happened at Leeds this week.
