Promising Leeds teenager on trial with PL club, featured for Under-23s

The success of Leeds United Under-23s in recent seasons could have gone somewhat under-the-radar at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa has brought back the positive headlines to Elland Road in his year-and-a-half spell in West Yorkshire. The club’s academy has also gone from strength to strength, winning the Professional Development League last season.

Carlos Corberan has a number of stars in his side, and that has seen the first team benefit. In the face of numerous injury crisises, Bielsa has used the likes of Jamie Shackleton and Jack Clarke to great effect.

One face that hasn’t managed to break through, even into the under-23s yet, is Connor Leak-Blunt.

The midfielder signed his first professional contract at Elland Road in the summer, but that could already be set to come to an end three years before its expiration.

It was revealed by the Star that the teenager has been on trial at Sheffield United in the past week. Leak-Blunt featured for their development squad last weekend.

Whilst Leeds Under-23s were cruising past Bolton 5-1 on Monday evening, the midfielder featured for the Blades’ young squad against Wigan.

If Leak-Blunt was going to make it at Leeds, he surely would have made it into the under-23s squad by now.

Corberan has proved before that he will pick a player regardless of their age this season. Just in Monday’s victory over Bolton alone, the Spaniard played both Nohan Kenneh and Charlie Cresswell – both Under-18 players.
