Pictured: Elland Road pitch redevelopment starts to take shape

It is no secret that Leeds United needed to upgrade the Elland Road pitch after their first season back in the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men were forced to play on one of the worst surfaces we have seen, with the short turnaround last summer leaving no room for change.

That changed midway through the season, as Leeds purchased a pitch from Spurs, something that turned into an ice-rink for a couple of months.

Andrea Radrizzani sanctioned work on the redevelopment the day after the 3-1 win over West Brom last month, with big changes needed.

The Whites are not only getting a new pitch but a completely new drainage system, which has never been changed since it was first installed.

Hewitt Sportsturf are the company tasked with the huge works, and they have shared an update on their official Twitter account this week.

Needed.

Everything to do with the pitch needed completely stripping away and replaced, there were never any arguments about that.

Radrizzani continues to prove his worth as a brilliant owner and is pumping his finances into the club alongside the San Francisco 49ers, as Elland Road continues to be upgraded.

Leeds smashed their opposition more times than not at home last season, going unbeaten and dominating most of the top-six, imagine what we could do when the pitch suits us even more.

Marcelo Bielsa will be delighted with this upgrade and how it is progressing, especially now that he will never be questioned on the playing surface in a negative way again, fingers crossed.

We already can’t wait for the first day of the season, but looking at these pictures, there will be relief it isn’t for another two months.
