Phil Hay updates on Bamford and Ayling will excite Leeds United fans

Phil Hay has hinted at Patrick Bamford joining Luke Ayling for the Leeds United Under-23s game against Manchester City later today (Monday).

In the comments section of his piece for The Athletic, Hay wrote that Bamford is set for the next phase of his recovery.

He said, “The 23s play tomorrow night. Ayling should feature and it would be a bonus if Bamford did too. They are missing an out and out centre forward. I don’t feel like the James experiment has legs in it at this stage.”

This will be terrific news for Marcelo Bielsa and the Leeds fans who have struggled to watch their team find the back of the net.

Due to the lack of a focal point, the Argentine has had to deploy the likes of Rodrigo, Joe Gelhardt and Danie James there.

None of them, despite having good individual moments, have been impressive in that role and made their position their own.

With Bamford coming back, Bielsa will have someone who can lead the press for him and understands his system perfectly.

He’s become a more clinical finisher than he was in the Championship and has also found himself earning a call-up to the England side.

Ayling’s return would also benefit the first team and he’s likely to start from the next game as he’s been back in training for a while.

We cannot wait to see his overlapping runs and telling crosses from the right as that’s something that has been missing in the past few games.
