Phil Hay shares what Daniel Farke told Leeds United players before win v Millwall

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke warned his players about the physicality and insanity that comes as standard with a visit to face Millwall at The Den, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist wrote on September 18 that the boss was keen to ensure his side held their composure amid the chaos of the fixture, having a word with the players before the game about what the game would be like.

A trip to The Den is usually a high-intensity encounter for any side, but it holds a special significance when Leeds make the trip to South London due to hostilities between fans.

Hay shared what Farke told him: “We spoke about the physicality and insanity.”

His side coped with the pressure perfectly

A comfortable 3-0 win saw the home fans departing in their thousands after the third hit the back of the net. There will not be a much sweeter feeling as a Leeds fan, or even as a player or manager, than seeing The Den empty as your players run off to celebrate.

The boss’ words beforehand had clearly resonated with the players, as they did not get caught up in the so-called insanity provided by this fixture, and they remained composed and clinical in getting the job done, earning a brilliant three points on the road.

This result could be the type to kickstart a season. It had been a turbulent start for Leeds, with just one win in their opening six Championship games, but a relatively simple 3-0 demolition on the road should provide the belief that it can be done.

Leeds will now look to push on, using this result as a confidence boost in their hopes of gaining promotion back to the Premier League come the end of this season, with a derby up next in an all-Yorkshire clash with Hull City.

In other Leeds United news, the new summer signings have finally started to pay off with a £16million man shining.
