Leeds United summer signings starting to pay off after Millwall demolition
The busy summer transfer window at Elland Road is now starting to pay off for Leeds United after their 3-0 demolition of Millwall at The Den on 17 September.
As The Athletic Journalist Phil Hay shared via his personal Twitter account, there isn’t a summer signing at Leeds that hasn’t been impressive in their Championship campaign so far.
Leeds brought in a host of new arrivals, as they saw plenty of stars leave following their relegation, and the recruitment drive now seems to be paying off and was typified in the victory at The Den.
Joel Piroe in particular has come into the side and done exactly what was required of him in providing the goals as he did so well while at Swansea, prompting Leeds to spend £11million, possibly rising to around £16million on securing his signature.
Ethan Ampadu has also impressed, filling a gap in midfield that once looked like it would be a problem position after the exits of Tyler Adams, Marc Roca, Adam Forshaw and Brenden Aaronson. Memories of the Premier League contingent could be a thing of the past with Ampadu’s performances so far.
Sam Byram and Joe Rodon have slotted seamlessly into Daniel Farke’s defence, providing some much-needded quality in the back line and once again plugging the gaps of players who left before them.

The new owners and board at Elland Road will certainly be pleased with the business they managed to do, having promised Farke and Leeds fans a competitive squad, and the early signs show they may well have delivered.
In other Leeds United news, one Sky Sports pundit was stunned by “devastating” Leeds attackers.
