Phil Hay shares what agent of Leeds United player told him in private about Jesse Marsch before he got sacked
Phil Hay claims that an agent of a Leeds United player told him on the morning of 6 February that Jesse Marsch had lost faith in Jesse Marsch.
He was sacked in the afternoon after the club decided to part ways as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, leaving them in 17th place.
The Whites have failed to win a league game since November and eventually, the board decided it was time to part ways with the American.
Hay wrote on the Athletic, “One agent, who asked not to be named to protect the player he represented, said this morning he no longer thought the players ‘really believed’ in the model, and the board felt the same. There had been thin ice under Marsch since a 2-1 defeat at Villa on January 13. It was the first time Leeds felt obliged to actively consider Marsch’s position.”
Bad planning
Leeds just came out of the January window breaking their transfer record on a player that they signed to fit Marsch’s system.

They brought in Weston McKennie from Juventus too because of him and decided to sack him without giving him the chance to even start the two of them in a league game.
We’re not advocating for giving Marsch more time, in fact, they should have sacked him before the transfer window, which meant making the call during the winter break.
This would give them time to recruit a new manager and see the players he wants to be signed in the January transfer window.
These sorts of knee-jerk reactions aren’t going to get them very far and Andrea Radrizzani is desperately clinging on to Leeds’ Premier League status as it has huge financial ramifications on an eventual sale to the San Francisco 49ers.
It now remains to be seen who they end up bringing to the club as it’s very important they can hire someone who steadies the ship while also doing his bit at improving the players he’s got at his disposal.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are now preparing to sign a former Barcelona defender in the summer and have already taken decisive steps towards sealing the deal.
