Phil Hay shares ‘really interesting’ Stuart Dallas update as new role mooted at Leeds United

Leeds United have held conversations with Stuart Dallas about what could be next for him following retirement, according to Phil Hay.

The Northern Irish international’s career was brought to a premature end through injury, with the midfielder himself confirming earlier this season that he would hang up his boots at the end of the Championship campaign.

While Angus Kinnear has previously suggested Dallas will be offered a new role at Thorp Arch, The Athletic’s Leeds journalist Hay has suggested the 33-year-old will take some time before making any big decisions.

Speaking on The Square Ball Podcast (8 June, 2:30) he said: “Obviously Dallas has retired, that will be him and it will be really interesting to see what he does actually, whether he goes into coaching.

“There was a bit of a conversation with Leeds about what could be next for him, but I expect he’ll just take some time to take stock.”

Will Stuart Dallas remain at Leeds United and Elland Road after retirement?

It is safe to say that Dallas has had a few of the strangest seasons of any footballer over the last few years as he hasn’t stepped foot on a pitch for more than two years having picked up an injury against Manchester City in 2022.

Despite his best efforts to get back to full fitness and the support of Leeds United through, the Northern Irish had to call time on his career and that will have turned his whole world upside down in the blink of an eye.

Ultimately, the former Whites star will be in no rush to make any premature decisions over his future. At only 33, he still has plenty of time to explore other avenues before making the decision to go into the world of coaching.

It is good to see that Leeds have opened that avenue to him at least and should he want to take it, he will always be welcome at Elland Road.

As Hay suggests, it will be interesting to see what his next steps are in the coming weeks and months.
