Phil Hay shares Illan Meslier injury news after Leeds United v Watford
Illan Meslier nearly missed the 3-0 Leeds United win over Watford in the Premier League on Saturday (April 9).
According to Phil Hay, per information gathered by the club, the Frenchman was touch and go ahead of when Jesse Marsch decided his team.
However, the decision was made to start him and he ended up keeping a clean sheet as his side secured three points.
Via his personal Twitter account, the Athletic journalist wrote, “Meslier almost missed today with lingering effects of the injury he suffered at Wolves. Gelhardt only returned to training yesterday.
“Interestingly, said of the entire group, Sam Greenwood has adapted to his ideas better than anyone. Marsch says he needs to use him more.”
Massive
Meslier did not have too many big saves to make but was called into action a few times.
More important than his shot stopping abilities was how effective he was with the ball at his feet.

He helped the Whites build from the back comfortably and was always willing to step outside his penalty area to recover possession and begin counterattacks for his team.
There’s not been much of a difference in the role he’s played under Jesse Marsch compared to that under Marcelo Bielsa.
The Frenchman still appears the same, focused sweeper keeper who appears to be on the cusp of greatness and is also understood to be on the radar of top clubs.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are leading the race to complete a major signing and have already opened talks to seal a £25m deal.
