Phil Hay: Rodrigo can't play through pain for Leeds, missing v Manchester City
Phil Hay has insisted that Rodrigo cannot play through the pain for Leeds United against Manchester City tomorrow.
The Spaniard is still suffering the consequences of a heel problem that forced him out of the 3-2 defeat at Chelsea last time out.
Hay shared that the pain needs to subside before he can return to training, and then into the matchday squad following that.
Writing on his personal Twitter account during the press conference, Hay shared that Rodrigo is suffering from a similar problem to Pascal Struijk.
“No fresh injuries ahead of tomorrow but none of the players who were absent at Chelsea are ready to return,” he wrote. “Rodrigo also.
“Bielsa says Struijk’s injury (affecting bones in one of his feet) is unusual. In short, Struijk can’t play through it. Needs the pain to subside. The same with Rodrigo and his heel.”
When will it stop?
When it rains, it pours, although what is happening at Elland Road right now is torrential, and it doesn’t look like stopping.
Rodrigo was in a really good run of form during that run that included his penalty against Wolves and that goal at Norwich, but that has been taken away from him again.
Patrick Bamford injuring himself yet again in the celebrations against Brentford opened the door for the Spaniard again, but he won’t be able to take that chance.
It looks as though the pain disappearing isn’t right around the corner, meaning that Joe Gelhardt will surely get more opportunities after his goal at Chelsea – he has certainly earned it.
