Phil Hay reacts as Liverpool humiliate Leeds United at Elland Road
Phil Hay has slammed Leeds United for their “rubbish” performance at Elland Road as they lost 6-1 to Liverpool on Monday, 17 April.
The Athletic journalist was in attendance at the game as he saw the Whites get comprehensively beaten by the Champions League chasing side.
Luis Sinisterra was the only player who found the back of the net in what was a forgetful night for Leeds in what was their heaviest-ever Premier League home defeat.
The Athletic journalist wrote on Twitter, “FT: Leeds 1 Liverpool 6. Set fire to that performance. Rubbish.”
Unacceptable
Hay sums up what every Leeds fan felt after that performance and they didn’t even look like a bunch of players good enough for the Premier League.
It’s the sort of display a mid-table Championship side puts in and at least they show a bit of heart and desire.
Those two terms were completely lacking from this game and the big issue is that it’s hard to pinpoint it on anyone in particular.

The board took way too long to sack Jesse Marsch, leaving Javi Gracia to deal with a team that was built to suit his style of football.
The Spaniard is far more defensive than the American and he would’ve perhaps spent the club record fee on signing a defender instead of a striker who does not seem like he can cut in the Premier League right now.
It’s going to be back to the drawing board for Gracia now but he’s got to change things radically as conceding 11 goals in two games at home is unacceptable.
