Phil Hay reacts as Leeds United make Archie Gray contract decision
Phil Hay claims that it’s a good thing Leeds United tied down Archie Gray to a professional contract until the summer of 2025 as he turned 17.
The Athletic journalist has stated that it was the club’s intention to get the midfielder to finalise terms at the earliest before making an announcement.
On Friday, 17 March, Leeds announced via social media that Gray will be at Elland Road for the foreseeable future.
Via Twitter, Hay wrote, “This is good. Archie Gray signs his first professional deal at Leeds United, to 2025. Now 17 years old so can take up pro forms – and it was always Leeds’ intention to tie him down at the first opportunity.”
Good news
Gray is someone who has been talked about by the Leeds faithful since he was a 15-year-old, so to say that’s hyped as the next big thing, is an understatement.

He’s also trained with the first team for a while now and that’s testament to the development he’s shown at a very early age.
We will be surprised if, by this time next season, he’s not making the matchday squad more gameweeks than not if he’s at the club and not loaned out.
As of now, there seem to be no plans on letting him go and his first-team experience should be at Elland Road itself.
The coaches like him and as do the fans so it only makes sense for him to continue his development with players competing at the highest level.
It remains to be seen if Javi Gracia is willing to take the punt on him now that Tyler Adams has been ruled out with an injury.
In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
