Phil Hay: Raphinha has ‘decent chance’ of returning for Leeds v Manchester United
Leeds United winger Raphinha will have a “decent chance” of returning for the Premier League clash against Manchester United this weekend.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay suggested that it was touch and go as the South American superstar missed out on the 1-1 draw against Liverpool.
Raphinha has been nursing a thigh injury after being taken out by Fernandinho against Manchester City, and early reports claimed it was a dead leg.
Writing in his Q&A for the Athletic last night, Hay suggested that it could be positive news regarding the Brazilian ahead of this weekend.
“He’ll have a decent chance given that he wasn’t ruled out of this game as of Thursday last week,” he wrote. “We’ll check with Bielsa.”
Fingers crossed.
Leeds had the chances to beat Liverpool with ease last night.
You have to question whether or not the difference between one and three points was missing the likes of Rodrigo and Raphinha who could have finished those chances.
The Brazilian has been superb since moving to Elland Road from Rennes, but it was nice to see the Whites not too reliant on him last night.
Ian Poveda certainly impressed off the bench, and it appears as though it will be Helder Costa dropping to the sidelines should Raphinha recover in time for Sunday.
Given that it was supposed to be a dead leg, he should be good to return after what essentially has been two weeks out of action.
