Phil Hay provides positive update on Leeds United pursuit of Charles De Ketelaere

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has suggested that AC Milan’s current situation could well pave the way for a Leeds United move for Charles De Ketelaere.

90min reported [30 June] that Leeds, along with AC Milan and Leicester, are all keen on the 21-year-old Club Brugge star.

It has been reported by Italian football website Calciomercato on 25 June that the Club Brugge attacker was leaning towards a move to join Serie A champions AC Milan.

However talking on the Phil Hay show [1 July, 37m33s], Hay revealed that the attacker’s move to Italy may well have hit the rocks.

The Athletic journalist said: “The feeling was that he was going to go to Milan in Italy but Milan are going through a strange period at the moment and also don’t seem that organised.

“We thought his preference was to go to Italy, but speaking to our guys who know the Italian market, they’re not too sure what is going on at the moment.”

Leeds simply have to move for the 21-year-old attacker who managed 14 goals and seven assists in the 2021/22 season.

Belgium journalist Alexandre Braeckman has exclusively told MOT Leeds News [1 July] that a fee of around £30.1million would be enough to entice the prolific forward away from the Belgium side.

If that is the case then Leeds should be strongly considering a move for the in-demand forward.

He’s young, has a proven goalscoring record and would be an excellent young player for Leeds moving forward.

If he made the switch to Elland Road, there is a good chance that he would go on to develop into an asset for the Whites.

Jesse Marsch needs to soften the blow of potentially losing Raphinha in the coming days.

The Brazilian was the main source of attacking output at Leeds in the 2021/22 season and it is crucial that his goals and assists are adequately replaced.

The young Belgium international would give Leeds a creative spark as well as an excellent goalscoring threat.

Marsch and Victor Orta should be all over this move.

In other Leeds United news, the club’s biggest transfer saga could be set to explode much further based on what a Sky Sports reporter said live on air.
