Phil Hay predicts how many signings Leeds United will make before transfer deadline
Phil Hay does not see Leeds United making any more signings this summer despite being linked with moves for strikers and left-backs.
The Athletic journalist claims that another signing will possibly be made if Dan James is sold in the coming days, with Tottenham Hotspur being among the suitors.
However, Hay remains blase on any more players walking through the door before the 11pm 1 September deadline.
Speaking on the Phil Hay Show (23:23), he said, “If James was to go then absolutely I would expect someone to come in. Hwang is a player Marsch would take but he would fall into that category where you have to actually think about what you’re going to pay for him and not go over the odds to make a bid for the player.
“From the noises over the weekend, my gut feeling is Leeds may go over the deadline of the window without anything happening.”
It is not acceptable for Leeds to spend the entire summer chasing unattainable targets only to not sign a striker or a left-back.
It was clear since June that they need to address both these positions and it seemed like they were making steps in the right direction.
Their pursuits of Charles De Ketelaere and Arnaud Kalimuendo meant that they were willing to spend top dollar on good attackers.
However, now that appetite does not seem to be there and they may be fine having Rodrigo and Patrick Bamford as the two main senior options.
If there weren’t plans to sign a new left-back, they should have kept Leif Davis rather than playing Pascal Stuijk out of position.
We cannot believe that Victor Orta has let this happen and Jesse Marsch surely will be fuming if he doesn’t get another signing over the line.
