Phil Hay names Leeds trio who could look to leave club in January

Leeds United are once again approaching the January transfer window with fans calling for numerous signings to improve the squad.

While incoming may be on the mind, Phil Hay has been quizzed on those who could be going the other way at Elland Road.

Tyler Roberts, Mateusz Klich and Jamie Shackleton were named as three who could be looking for more minutes elsewhere if their opportunities become more limited.

Writing in his latest Q&A, Hay named the three players that could look to move on sooner rather than later if not given more minutes.

“Unless Leeds recruit next month, the squad is hardly big enough to allow players to go on loan,” he said.

“But Roberts is in a strange position, Klich isn’t playing too regularly so maybe they will want regular football soon.

“We spoke to Shackleton’s agent, Hayden Evans, on the podcast and he conceded that Shackleton needs to be playing more than he has.”

No chance.

Limited minutes or not, the Leeds squad is in no shape to allow any of their senior players to leave the club on loan or permanently.

Marcelo Bielsa likes to work with minimal numbers within his squad and is finally edging back to full fitness with the likes of Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling nearly back.

The bench finally looked much stronger against Crystal Palace on Tuesday and having those options to bring on such as Rodrigo clearly helped.

Victor Orta will be working on incoming, never mind those potentially leaving anyway, although it could be a quiet month on that front.

Roberts proved he has what it takes to shine at Elland Road if given the chance in that Palace clash, and he still has many years ahead of him to improve that end product.

Klich is playing here and there, with Shackleton having injuries so there should be nothing to worry about on that front.

It will be an interesting month, and there is bound to be many more links with exits over the next eight weeks.
