Phil Hay moots potential exits for Leeds United duo Rodrigo and Mateusz Klich this summer

Phil Hay has questioned whether Leeds United duo Rodrigo and Mateusz Klich have futures at the club under Jesse Marsch beyond this season.

The Athletic journalist was interrogated on who could leave the club in this window, with those two big names not fitting into the style of Jesse Marsch as well as others.

So far, there have been zero suggestions that either could be on the way out, but being mentioned could mean that the club could leave the back door open if interest comes.

Writing in his latest Mailbag for The Athletic on Tuesday [07 June], Hay shared who else could be moved on from this current squad at Elland Road.

“I’m speculating a little here because a lot of Leeds’ work so far has been based on incomings,” he wrote.

“I wonder about Rodrigo. Signing him just hasn’t worked as a £27million purchase should. That said, Jesse Marsch made the effort to involve him very heavily on and off the pitch in the final couple of months of last season so that one is up in the air.

“I’m also wondering how or if Mateusz Klich fits into the sort of system Marsch seems to favour.”

Possible?

This all depends on how Marsch sees his squad.

It could be that the American wants much more depth available to him, and the likes of Rodrigo and Klich are used as mainly squad players and impact men off the bench.

For too long, we have relied on academy players as substitutes and that has become problematic with injuries and the little impact they can have against the bigger teams.

Getting international players available to either start or come off the bench would be much better, and they will be ready to come on and make a real difference, rather than just experience a debut.

If Andrea Radrizzani wants to bring European football back to Elland Road, he needs to keep investing in the squad and keep his bigger, better players around.

Would selling these two be a mistake? Only time will tell as we progress through these next two months.
