Phil Hay: Marsch expects Leeds United ace Bamford to be fit v Aston Villa

Leeds United are in line for a major injury boost as Patrick Bamford is expected to be available for the Aston Villa clash.

The Whites suffered a 1-0 defeat against Leicester City on Saturday in what was Marsch’s first game in charge.

Dan James led the line for the American, but he’s expected to have the England international’s services for their next league game.

Phil Hay, via his personal Twitter account, wrote, “Marsch felt the challenge on Rodrigo in the first half was a penalty. Expects Bamford to be involved against Villa on Thursday.”

Fantastic

Bamford has been a major absence for Leeds and having him back will be phenomenal for the Marsch.

James is not a very adept leader of the line for the Whites and they need a specialist forward.

Joe Gelhardt has not been tried enough in Bamford’s stead but he knows that he’s nowhere close to the Englishman who took the Premier League by storm last season.

Bamford was maligned in the build-up to the 2020/21 campaign, but he silenced his critics with a stunning display for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Hopefully, he has a similar impact under Marsch as the American also prioritises a high-pressing brand of football.

Whether or not Bamford can fit into his plans remains to be seen, as he does have runs where he goes a number of games without finding the back of the net.

In other Leeds United news, a former Whites midfielder has joked that he’s open to a return to Elland Road.
