Phil Hay makes admission about Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha future
Phil Hay believes that Leeds United will lose the services of both Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips in the coming years unless they reach a certain level.
The Whites have two extremely talented players among their ranks who are certainly going to have plenty of suitors in the coming years.
Raphinha is already being linked with a move to Liverpool and consistent performances for Marcelo Bielsa’s side will only increase the interest in his services.
Speaking on the recent episode of The Phil Hay Show, the Athletic journalist said, “I think as fans we need to sit back and enjoy players like Raphinha and Phillips because ultimately they will be gone unless we do the right things as a club. If we’re not at where they want to be they will look to leave.”
Leeds clearly have not shown any signs of progression this season and the fault of it cannot be attributed to Bielsa.
The Argentine was barely backed in the window as he was last summer and both his first-team signings, Dan James and Junior Firpo, have struggled to make an impact.
Coupled with that, have been the Whites’ growing injury concerns and it’s not just been to their fringe players.
Patrick Bamford, Luke Ayling, Diego Llorente, Raphinha and Phillips, all regulars in the team, have missed several games this term.
There’s got to be some heavy investment in the squad if Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani see this team as one that can challenge for European places every season.
We’re hoping that Raphinha stays on for at least another season whereas Phillips could be there for a couple of years before he wants to make that step up.
