Ben Dinnery: Luke Ayling will not start for Leeds United v Spurs
Luke Ayling is not likely to be thrown into the playing eleven by Marcelo Bielsa when Leeds United square off against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Injury expert Ben Dinnery has claimed that he will be in and around the matchday squad, but a start after so many weeks out, will not be happening.
The last time the Englishman played a game for the Whites was on September 17 when they drew 1-1 against Newcastle.
Speaking on the FPL Injury Podcast, Dinnery said, “I see Ayling being around the team for this game. Even if he’s in and around the squad, I certainly can’t see him being thrown into the starting eleven.”
Minutes off the bench?
Bielsa demands an insane level of fitness from his players and it’s unlikely that Ayling gets to that mark without any minutes on the pitch.
The Argentine will probably look to get him off the bench for the first few games to gauge where he’s at before starting him week in and week out.
His system is such that any player who comes in knows his role, and that’s been one of the main reasons why Ayling has not been missed to such a great extent.
Of course, having him back is a welcome boost and he should be ready to play in most, if not all games around the festive period.
What Ayling offers in the final third from right-back is second to none and the attackers would certainly benefit from having him in the team.
As Raphinha likes cutting in, Ayling is someone who prefers overlapping him and wreaking havoc in the final third.
